New Multimedia features

Twitter unveils new multimedia features

Before twitter used outside links to be able to post videos and pictures on a twitter account. Now they've announced that they will be providing their own capabilities to post videos and pictures on your tweets.

I personally don't see why they decided to add their own capabilities because there are so many different websites available from yfrog.com to twitpic.com and tweetphoto which is now called plixi. I feel that they are just trying to eliminate their competition. I personally use plixi with my twitter account and I feel that it works just as well as twitpic or any other companying website that you pair with your tweet that has a photo or video. However, maybe their capabilities to the website will make a tweeting experience better then what was had before.

  1. It seems like the addition of multimedia capabilities is just the first step in Twitter's attempt to take over the virtual world lol.

  2. Hi Leah:

I must say that you seem well grounded in the Twitter realm. It is my first time hearing about the various photo/video websites that you mentioned: yfrog.com, twitpic.com aka plixi. If I was asked to post anything to Youtube, Facebook, or Twitter, I would not know how to do it. I wish there was a website that could provide basic introdutory information as well as the various user options and benefits associated with all these various social networking websites. Tutorials on how to post/upload videos and pictures would also be very helpful. ~Aja

  3. Interesting article on how Twitter is expanding their capabilities. I'm a semi-consistent Twitter user, and one of the things I really like about Twitter compared to other social outlets online is its simplicity. Facebook and MySpace have become so crowded with different apps and "multimedia capabilities" that I find myself feeling overwhelmed at times. I hope these new additions don't make Twitter more cluttered/complicated.

  4. Aja- Probably if you spent some time googling and searching on youtube, you could find tutorials on twitter. However, in my undergrad my minor was instructional technology and we had to make a manual on how to use a type of technology. Mine was on twitter, so if you'd ever really like to set up a twitter and use it I can send you a copy of it. There are screen captures for everything along with descriptions that are step by step. It is very simple once you understand the concept of it.

  5. Bo- I know I feel that if twitter continues to add different capabilities it will become too cluttered and too confusing to use for new users along with old users. Twitter is simple with here is where you type this is what you use for a pictures and/or video then press post.
